PARADISE

Paradise is Mono County’s southernmost community, located about 15 miles north of Bishop and about 30 miles south of Mammoth Lakes right off U.S. Highway 395 along the original route of U.S. Highway 395.

Paradise functions mostly as a bedroom community and retirement community for residents who work or do business or recreate in Bishop or Mammoth Lakes, although most Paradise residents do most of their business and shopping in Bishop because it is closer.

Residents prize their exception views of the Sierra crest to the west, and the equally spectacular view of the White Mountains to the east.

The population was 153 at the last U.S. Census

Paradise lies at 5,230 feet elevation and sits near the bottom of the Sherwin Grade, where the northern border of Inyo County meets the southern border of Mono County.

Paradise residents enjoy snow-free winters and easy access to some of the Eastern Sierra’s most stunning backcountry located out of Bishop, as well as access to some of the region’s best single track and hiking trails. Several Blue Ribbon fishing streams, including the Owens River, are within a few minutes drive.

In fact, in some cases, the fishing is right out Paradise residents front doors, with Lower Rock Creek forming a constant backdrop of music to the community.

Paradise is characterized by very warm summers and mild winters, with snow and rain both rare.

The region is considered to be high desert, on the edge of the Great Basin and the Mojave Desert.
